In addition to the a variety of points of interest in Rome, you will find many locations in this area that testify the activity around the Eternal City, throughout the history of the ancient Rome.

Castelnuovo di Porto is a small town located on the high roman countryside towered by Soratte Mount. Before year 1000 the first Castle was built by Prince and Senator Alberico.

The Rocca di Castelnuovo was owned by the Colonna family up to the XII century and for all the 14th and 15th centuries. Castelnuovo Town was strictly linked to the history of Rome and to the fight between the Colonna and Orsini families. The numerous architectural roman remains testify the Caltelnuovo’s history.

On the Tiberina road, at Km 18, (8 Km away from the Agritourism) there is an archaeologic roman site, Lucus Feroniae, consecrated to Dea Feronia, Patron of the “freed slaves” and of “everything that comes out from the earth”. The cult site was a thriving centre already in the “Età Regia”. Faithful people and traders from Etruria, Lazio and Sabina used to gather in the Centre. The archaeologic area is composed of a wide alter for sacrificing, remains of an amphitheatre, roads and base of a Basilica.

Civita Castellana, 25 Km. away, is full of monuments that witness a thriving and a far away past, such as the wide Etruscan Necropolis, the Tempio di Giunone Curite and many roman remains spread all over the area. There are various cult sites like the Chiesa del Carmine, dated roman times, which was the first town Cathedral and that one of San Gregorio, with XVth century paintings and on the town main square, the Chiesa di San Francesco dated 1200. The main one is Santa Maria Maggiore Cathedral, the town symbol.

Castelnuovo di Porto is one of the nine Counties that form the wonderful Parco di Veio, established in 1997. This park extends as far as 15.000 protected hectares, has a great historical, archaeological and landscaping value. To-day you can appreciate the remnants of the old Veio, the most southern city of Etruria. It is evident from the archaeological discovery that the settling down goes back to the bronze age. Later it became a rich and powerful city due to its strategic position on the right bank of the fiume Tevere. Several necropolis and the famous Tomba delle Anatre, considered the most famous painted grave in Italy, were found around the remains of the city.

Sant’Oreste, a small town that goes back to the 8th century a.c., famous for its narrow and meandering alleys, lays on the slopes of Mount Soratte.
